Anglican women in Aguata Diocese, Anambra state have decried increasing insecurity in Nigeria, regretting that the ugly trend was threatening socioeconomic development of the country.
Addressing delegates at the Women’s Conference at St. Peters Church Ezinifite in Aguata Local Government Area, President, Aguata Diocesan Women’s Ministry, Mrs Chinyere Ezeofor called for creation of employment opportunities for teeming youths to divert their minds from crime and restiveness.
She extolled the giant strides of the state Governor Willie Obiano, especially the International Cargo and Passenger Airport at Umueri just as she commended his wife, Dr Ebelechukwu Obiano for improving living standards of women especially the widows through her Caring family Enhancement Initiative.
Speaking on the theme, ‘Divine Principles of Transformation Discipleship’, Mrs Ezeofor described obedience as one of the attributes of good discipleship, charging Christians to use their position in changing the moral tone of the society.
Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev. Samuel Ezeofor, while declaring the conference open, charged women to take the upbringing of their children in Christ-like way seriously, stressing it was first step of restoring sanity to the society.
Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Education Monitoring, Dame Chinyere Mbakwe called on women to ensure that relative peace existed in their various families, cautioning them against delegating their family role of child upbringing to their house-helps.
Over 32 bishop’s wives, including wife of the Archbishop of Niger Province and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Mrs Chioma Ibezim, wife of former Dean of the church of Nigeria Most Rev. Maxwell Anikwenwa were present at the event.
