The Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, His Grace, the Most Rev’d Dr. Henry C. Ndukuba, has urged new Bishops and their wives in the Church to lead with integrity and serve as exemplary spiritual and moral leaders in their dioceses.
The General Secretary of the Church of Nigeria, Venerable Dr. Paul Dajur made this known in a statement he released on Friday.
He noted that the Primate made this call while speaking at the New Bishops’ Training holding at the Ibru International Ecumenical Centre, Agbarha-Otor, Delta State, Nigeria.
He offered prayers for God’s grace and guidance throughout the training, inspiring the participants to embrace their roles with renewed purpose.
The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) is hosting this training for all new bishops and their wives to equip them. This nine-day programme, which commenced on Sunday, January 19, 2025, and concludes on Monday, January 27, 2025, is being coordinated by the Most Rev’d Dr. Friday John Imaekhai and the Most Rev’d Dr. Emmanuel Egbunu, with the General Secretary, the Ven. Dr. Gershinen Paul Dajur, actively assisting.
A total of Eleven newly consecrated Bishops and their wives are participating in this intensive training designed to prepare them for effective ministry. The programme features lectures by esteemed Archbishops, Bishops, and lay leaders, covering topics such as expository preaching, the well-being of Bishops and their families, ethical episcopal leadership, and the Anglican Church’s liturgical and historical heritage.
One of the highlights has been a lecture by the Dean of the Church of Nigeria, the Most Rev’d Dr. Blessing Enyindah on the development of Bishops, clergy, and their wives. Additionally, the importance of appropriate episcopal dressing has been emphasized, ensuring participants are holistically equipped for their roles.
The programme begins each day with a morning Eucharistic service, officiated by one of the Bishops in training and supported by the Rector of the Centre, the Ven. Dr. Stephen Wolemonwu. This daily act of worship provides a reflective and spiritually enriching start to the day’s sessions.
Participants have lauded the Ibru Centre’s serene environment, comfortable facilities, and conducive learning atmosphere, which have fostered fellowship and focus. The Centre’s peaceful setting and state-of-the-art amenities make it an ideal venue for retreats, trainings, and spiritual reflection.
As the training continues, the Bishops and their wives are gaining valuable insights and practical tools to lead with wisdom and purpose in their dioceses.
