Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Rev Henry Ndukuba, has blamed Christians among the National Assembly members for allowing the controversial Company and Allied Matters Act (CAMA 2020) to be signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari without raising any objection.
He said the bill did not fly from the President’s table like a military decree. Rather, it went through first, second and third readings at the National Assembly before going to President Buhari for approval.
The Primate, who spoke to ACNN in Abuja, wondered why Christian legislators did not stand against the bill and no position paper was raised against it, while it was in the process.
He cited Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who, in the Bible, stood against the obnoxious law of king Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, refused to bow down to the king’s image; and were preserved from harm. He explained that the Lord is looking for men and women like Daniel and his friends who rose up to defend their faith.
Ndukuba, who believed that the CAMA law would not destroy the church, but make her focus on things that matter before God, said: “If the government is demanding accountability from us, what about God? Let us humble ourselves under the mighty hands of God.”
He decried the flamboyant lifestyle and display of wealth that have become way of life of some church leaders and General Overseers, and called on them, as well as church members to return to God.
