Police rescue 2 Nasarawa varsity students, arrest kidnapper

The Nasarawa State Police Command has successfully rescued two students from the Federal University Lafia who were kidnapped by a notorious criminal.

The operation began after a distress call was received on Sunday, reporting an attack by kidnappers on a student lodge located behind Nasara Estate, Tudun Kauri, Lafia.

According to the police spokesperson, Rahman Nansel, the attackers abducted Sadiq and Sakina Adinoyi during the assault. In response, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit was deployed to track down the suspects. The operation culminated in a gun battle, during which one suspect was apprehended.

The statement provided further details, noting that the Nasarawa State Police Command received the distress call at approximately 9:20 PM on March 30, 2024. The report indicated that the kidnappers had targeted the student lodge, abducting two students.

Following instructions from the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, along with officers from ‘A’ Division, Lafia, launched an operation. Using technical intelligence, they tracked the criminals to a forest area behind the 500 Housing Unit along Doma Road, Lafia, on April 1, 2025, at around 11:30 AM.

During the operation, the police engaged the kidnappers in a gunfight. Overpowered by the police, the suspects fled in different directions, leaving behind the two kidnapped victims, who were safely rescued. One suspect, identified as Ibrahim Musa from Abuni village, Awe Local Government Area, was apprehended at the scene. He has since made useful confessions and is aiding the investigation.

CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed commended the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for their dedicated efforts, reaffirming the command’s commitment to combatting crime and urging officers to remain vigilant in their pursuit of criminal elements in the state.
