A new suffragan bishop in the Diocese of Polynesia has been consecrated under a make-shift shelter on the island of Vanua Levu, rather than the cathedral in Suva, on Fiji’s other main island Viti Levu. Women from Christian churches in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic have committed themselves strengthen ecumenical women’s networks in the country and to work with local community organisations in a bid to combat gender-based violence. Clergy who help communities devastated by horrific events are to receive new training. Ministers have supported hundreds of people in the UK after traumatic events like terrorist attacks, fires, flooding and revelations of child abuse. The new training will help them support large numbers of people in such circumstances.
