Concerned about the nation’s state and the need for divine intervention, a Christian group known as the Christian Intercessors Department (CID) has planned a 72-hour marathon of prayers and fasting for peace, unity, and progress in Nigeria.
Addressing journalists during the inauguration of the National Advisory Board (NAB) and the National Planning Committee (NPC) for the event on Thursday in Abuja, Dr. Liberty Okon, the National Coordinator of CID, explained that CID is a branch of the Joint Faith Peace Initiative dedicated to interceding for the nation. He highlighted that Nigeria has faced numerous challenges, including Boko Haram insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, heinous crimes, militancy in the Niger Delta, and widespread corruption leading to poverty, inflation, and low productivity.
“The Christian Intercessors Department (CID) is an arm of the Joint Faith Peace Initiative whose sole purpose is to intercede for the nation, using prayer as our major weapon to destroy the works of the enemy and to establish, advance, and safeguard the kingdom of God on earth. Our watchword is Ezekiel 22:30-31,” Okon stated. He emphasized that the country’s current challenges have forced many citizens into refugee status within Nigeria, deterring foreign investment and hampering local farming activities, thus increasing poverty and hunger.
In response to these issues, the CID, in collaboration with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has organized the 72-hour marathon prayer and fasting event themed “God Remember Nigeria in Mercy.” The program aims to create a conducive spiritual atmosphere for divine intervention. It includes a Solemn Assembly aligned with 2 Chronicles 7:14, intending to encourage Christians nationwide to engage in prayer for Nigeria.
Okon highlighted the objectives of the prayer, which include encouraging spiritual warfare, supporting leaders and candidates with the fear of God, and fostering a supportive spiritual atmosphere for policymaking and implementation. The NAB’s role will be to guide and advise, recommend efforts to authorities, and stand in the gap for the movement. The NPC will collaborate with the NAB to ensure the event’s success, mobilize resources, and identify sponsors.
Overall, the event seeks to rally Christians across Nigeria to pray for divine intervention and positive change in the nation’s governance and societal issues.
