The Diocese of Evo, Anglican Communion, held its 2025 Rededication Service on Sunday, January 19, at All Saints’ Cathedral in Rumuokwurusi, Port Harcourt.

The event, attended by a large congregation, featured a powerful sermon from the Rt. Rev. Dr. Markus Madugu Dogo, Bishop of the Diocese of Kafanchan, who urged Christians to make a positive impact wherever they go.

Bishop Dogo, who was accompanied by his wife, commended the theme of the year, “Our Year of Making A Difference,” calling it a timely reminder for Christians to recognize their role in society as beacons of light and agents of positive change. He stressed that the theme was particularly relevant in light of the challenges facing the social, political, and religious spheres. Drawing from Matthew 5:13, Bishop Dogo encouraged the faithful to be intentional in their efforts to make a difference in all areas of life.

He also challenged Christians to abandon negative confessions and embrace the light, stating, “The world can only be influenced positively by people who are determined to make a difference, as those who make a difference know that they are the light of the world.” Bishop Dogo further reminded the congregation that their worth lies not in titles or honors, but in God’s grace.

In his address, Bishop Dogo urged the faithful to follow the examples of biblical leaders like Abel, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and David, who made significant impacts in their time. He cautioned that those who fail to make a difference are disappointing to God.

Bishop Innocent Ordu, the Diocesan Bishop, challenged the congregation to offer genuine service to God in 2025, as a reflection of gratitude for His love and benevolence in the past year. He commended the community for their unwavering commitment to God’s work despite the country’s economic challenges, encouraging them to serve with even greater dedication in the year ahead.

The service also featured special prayers for various arms, units, and groups of the Diocese, rededicating them to God’s service and seeking His blessings for the year ahead. Key highlights included the inauguration of the Patrons and Patronesses of the Diocesan Boys Brigade, the presentation of certificates to graduates of the Diocesan ICT training, and bursary awards to 42 undergraduates from the Diocese, sponsored by the Council of Knights. Special honorary awards were also presented to notable “Kingdom Partners.”

The event was a resounding success, with a diverse group of attendees, including parishioners, local political figures, traditional rulers, and students from Evo Diocesan schools, all gathering to celebrate and recommit themselves to God’s service for 2025.
