Chief Willie Maduaburochukwu Obianor, the Executive Governor of Anambra State has been commended for the way he handled the Covid-19 lockdown in Anambra State.
This commendation was given by the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Amichi, His Lordship, The Rt. Rev’d. Ephraim Okechukwu Ikeakor while delivering his Presidential address at the ongoing 3rd Session of the 4th Synod of the Diocese holding at Ebenezer Church, Unubi.
Bishop Ikeakor attributed the low incidence of Coronavirus in Anambra State to the way Governor Obianor honoured God by not shutting down churches during the lockdown.
“Many of us don’t really know the main reason why Anambra state recorded, and is recording the least number of cases of the Coronavirus infection in the South-East and South-South Geopolitical zones. The Anambra state Governor is the only governor in these zones that never openly or outrightly directed in all his broadcasts that Churches should be shut down. When we noticed that, we mobilized constant Prayers for both the Governor and Anambra State throughout the critical period of the pandemic.”
According to Bishop Ikeakor, when he noticed the posture of the governor, he decided to plead with God to honour our Governor since he did not shut down Churches thereby honouring God by divinely protecting Anambra State and Anambrarians from the deadly virus.
Bishop Ikeakor called on Obiano to make it his priority to return Anambra State to her place as the state with the best network of roads. He described as bad and unbearable the present state of roads in Anambra State.
“Before now, Anambra State had the best road networks in the whole South-East, and even South-South. Today the situation is becoming very bad and unbearable. Let His Excellency activate the state road maintenance agency and put them to work. Again, the quality and caliber of road construction companies handling road projects in Anambra State leaves much to be desired.”
Bishop Ikeakor speaking further in his address, reminded Gov. Willie Obianor that he has just about one more year left in his second tenure in office as the governor of Ananmbra State and advised him to ensure that the cargo airport project is completed before the expiration of his tenure of office.
“While we are happy and, commend you for Cargo Airport your administration started building, we charge you to channel your last efforts towards completing and delivering that project before handing over to your successor. It will be an unforgettable legacy if your Excellency can make that Airport your parting gift to Ndi Anambra. Your successor may not see that project as his priority. So the tendency of abandoning it is very high.”
He further called on Gov. Obiano to consider citing economically viable project to boost the development of communities within Amichi Diocese and reminded him to ensure that the election of his successor in office follows the principles of fairness including denominational considerations.
“It is our great desire to appeal to His Excellency to think of any economically, or educationally viable project to site in this part of Anambra state known as Diocese of Amichi. It is a very known fact that there is no government presence here. Is it not possible to build a campus of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu University in any of the towns here, or any University or tertiary Institution here?”
“We also call on His Excellency to ensure that in the forthcoming Governorship election in Anambra state, equity, justice and fair play are upheld. The gentleman’s zoning arrangement and agreement should be observed in all areas including denominational divide.”
