The World Bank Board of Directors yesterday approved $114.28 million financing to help Nigeria prevent, detect and respond to the threat posed by the COVID-19 pandemic with specific focus on state level responses. On the same day, 443 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded nationwide, taking the number of confirmed cases to 45,687 with 32,637 discharged and 936 deaths recorded. The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has asked Peter Nwaoboshi, chairman of the senate committee on NDDC, to refund a sum of N2.5 billion. The commission said the sum was given to the senator for the supply of plastic desks and chairs for primary and secondary schools in the region. Nwaoboshi was named by Godswill Akpabio, minister of Niger Delta affairs, as one of the lawmakers who benefited from contracts awarded by the NDDC.
