Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has shared his ongoing vigilance against sexual immorality despite his years of ministry and ‘anointing’.
During the recent Ministers & Workers Conference of RCCG America 1, Adeboye emphasized that no amount of anointing can protect one from such temptation. He highlighted that even biblical figures like Samson, who was anointed, fell into sexual immorality.
Adeboye, speaking during a sermon posted on his YouTube page, noted that as he grows older, he becomes even more cautious. He urged ministers of the gospel to remain wary of sexual immorality and not to rely on their anointing to shield them from temptation. He recounted, “Somebody says, at your age, why are you still running? I run faster than before because the closer you get to the finishing point, the more careful you must be.”
He warned that anointing does not make one immune, citing Samson as an example. “With all your anointing, does anointing turn your body to stone? Samson was anointed. Single-handedly, he killed a thousand soldiers. A woman finished him. I hope the boys are listening. You can say, ‘Is anybody still interested in an 82-year-old man?’ She is not interested in you but in putting an end to all the great works God has done through you.”
Adeboye advised both young men and women to avoid situations that could lead to sin, emphasizing the need to flee from youthful lusts. He added, “If the devil comes against you, tell the devil to get lost, but when you see a girl smiling at you in a funny way, run because you can’t win the battle.”
He concluded by stressing the importance of running away from temptation, as there is no grace for what God says to flee from, but perhaps grace to run away.
