Troops kill Three Bandits, Recover Weapons in Taraba

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army deployed to Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State Wednesday killed three notorious bandits.

During the operation, the personnel recovered 2 AK-47 rifles, a motorcycle used by the criminals, and a cache of 40 rounds of 7.62 MM Special ammunition.

In a statement released on Thursday in Jalingo, the spokesperson of the 6 Brigade Lt. Col. Olubodunde Oni the operation took place in Chibi village.

Olu said the 6 Brigade troops, acting on actionable intelligence, conducted a precision strike against the criminal elements.

“The engagement demonstrated the troops’ unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security in Taraba State.

“The Commander 6 Brigade, Brigadier Gen Kingsley Uwa commended the troops for their bravery and efficiency in executing the operation.

“He emphasised the military’s determination to rid the state of criminal elements and ensure the safety and well-being of the local population,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, our correspondent reports that cases of kidnapping have surged in the state with dozens of people being held in forests across the state by kidnappers.

A second-class chief in the state, his son, a pregnant daughter, a police orderly, and 17 others were abducted in December 2023 in the Pupule area of Yorro Local Government Area.

Also, earlier in November 2023, gunmen suspected to be herdsmen attacked and killed 20 people in the Yangtu Development Area and Ussa Local Government Area.
