The Super Eagles have moved up 14 places in the latest FIFA men’s ranking on Thursday.
The Nigerian national team moved from the 42nd position to the 28th position in the world.
The new ranking by the World Football governing body also showed that the Super Eagles have moved from sixth position to third in Africa.
This new position on the global list is the national team’s highest since May 2013.
The big leap is due to the Eagles’ campaign at the just concluded African Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire where they came second and clinched the silver medal.
After an unbeaten run in the competition, the Eagles lost 2-1 to Cote d’Ivoire in the final.
Cote d’Ivoire moved from 49th in the world to 39th, while Morocco and Senegal maintained their lead as the best African teams.
Argentina remained number one in the world in the latest ranking while France and Brazil maintained second and third positions.
The FIFA Men’s World Ranking is a rating system by the football’s world governing body for the men’s national teams in association football.
Based on their performance in games, the men’s member teams are ranked, with the most successful teams at the top.
