In response to a surge in fake ride requests, Bolt has blocked numerous accounts involved in fraudulent activity and restricted inter-country ride requests.
This measure follows a recent clash between users in Nigeria and South Africa, who engaged in a tit-for-tat battle by ordering and canceling rides in each other’s countries.
Early Thursday, the situation escalated as South Africans allegedly ordered Bolt and Uber drivers in Nigeria only to cancel upon arrival, with Nigerians reciprocating by booking rides in South Africa. Bolt’s Country Manager for Nigeria, Yahaya Mohammed, addressed the issue, stating that the company has implemented enhanced security measures to tackle the problem.
According to Mohammed, “Bolt is actively addressing the fake ride request issue that has affected drivers in Nigeria and South Africa. Our primary focus is the integrity and safety of our platform for both drivers and riders. After a thorough investigation, we have restricted inter-country ride requests and blocked those responsible for these malicious activities.”
The company extended its gratitude to its driver-partners for their patience and professionalism, reaffirming its commitment to providing a secure and reliable experience for all users.
