In a tribute to veteran public servant Owelle Gilbert Chikelu on his 95th birthday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu praised him for a lifetime of selfless service to Nigeria.
The President described Chikelu as an embodiment of public service, highlighting his contributions to peace, stability, and development.
Tinubu acknowledged Chikelu’s notable career in the civil service, where he earned the title of ‘Super Permanent Secretary.’
He served in key ministries such as mines and power, economic development, and petroleum resources, leaving a lasting impact with his leadership.
“You epitomised the true essence of public service in promoting peace, stability, and development. Many of the initiatives introduced during your stewardship continue to shape and inspire improved service delivery to this day,” Tinubu said.
“Your 95-year journey on this side of eternity has been filled with profound testimonies, impact on humanity, and selfless service to our beloved country,”
Tinubu also commended the launch of Chikelu’s biography, ‘Owelle: The GPO Chikelu Story,’ believing the book offers valuable lessons on integrity and patriotism for political office holders.
“I firmly believe that this work, is a gift to the public and to political office holders, offering invaluable lessons on integrity, accountability, and patriotism,” he said.
In conclusion, Tinubu celebrated Chikelu as a man of honor and faith and expressed hope that his example would continue to inspire future generations of leaders.
“Happy 95th birthday to the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON), Owelle of Ichida, Owelle of Anaocha, and Knight of St. Paul, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion),” the President said.
