Insecurity: Allow Regional Security System To Function, Peter Obi Tells FG

During a live broadcast on Arise News TV, monitored by SaharaReporters on Wednesday night, Peter Obi stated that the same energy should be directed towards probing massive corruption affecting poor Nigerians.

Peter Obi, a former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the arrest of popular crossdresser Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, known as Bobrisky, and Pascal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chief Priest, over allegations of naira mutilation.

During a live broadcast on Arise News TV, observed by SaharaReporters on Wednesday night, Peter Obi criticized the EFCC, suggesting that the same level of effort should have been dedicated to investigating widespread corruption affecting impoverished Nigerians.

The EFCC recently secured a six-month conviction against Bobrisky for allegedly mutilating the country’s currency, the naira, during one of his public appearances.

Meanwhile, the Federal High Court in Lagos State had further adjourned until June 25 for the mention of a case against socialite, Pascal Okechukwu, aka Cubana Chief Priest for the same offence Bobrisky was convicted for.

The court had also granted Cubana Chief Priest bail at the sum of N10 million with two sureties in like sum after he pleaded not guilty to the allegation of mutilating and abusing the naira during his trial.

Reacting to these developments, Obi said that there are many pressing issues that demand the urgent intervention of the anti-graft agency than using public funds to secure conviction for abuse of currency.

He said, “If it is not budget padding today, it would be undisclosed subsidy payment, inflated contracts, and all sorts of things.

“These are issues I want our agencies like EFCC to start dealing with by not arresting Bobrisky and Obi Cubana. These are minor issues.

“Our agencies should face budget padding squarely not arresting Bobrisky because he dressed like a woman and spent like N500 notes.

“If someone comes to Nigeria today and says we are going to feed only women in this hunger time, all men would dress like women and go and collect the food because we are all hungry. People will dress like Bobrisky. Everybody will turn into women.”
