Henry Nwosu (MON) and Friday Ekpo, two former Super Eagles midfielders, have disagreed on the choice of Argentina friendly match for the Super Eagles, which will come up in Russia on November 14.
The Super Eagles will play the South American giants four days after playing Fennecs of Algeria in an insignificant 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
However, both former players, while speaking to INDEPENDENT in separate interviews, expressed divergent views on the encounter that will come up at the Krasnodar Arena Stadium.
Speaking on Tuesday, Ekpo said that the Argentina match was a good way to kick-start the 2018 World Cup preparations.
“I have to praise NFF for the match and I can say that it is a good way to start. We must start our preparations in earnest and I want to call on the NFF to go for other quality oppositions.
“I will suggest countries like Uruguay, German and possibly Spain in case we happen to be in the same group with any of them. The match is very welcomed,” Ekpo said.
But speaking to the paper also on Tuesday, Nwosu, said that the NFF should have started with an African opposition and graduate gradually to such formidable oppositions like Argentina, expressing the worry that a defeat from Argentina might send a wrong signal to football fans back home.
“We should have started from the lower side and graduates upwards. We should have played an African side after the last qualifier and take it from there. African opposition will equally be tough.
“So I would have preferred that we start with an African opposition and gradually started playing the tough ones.
“For instance, if we lose the match against Argentina, Nigerians will forget that it is a mere friendly match and they will start their usual criticisms,” Nwosu said.
