The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has advised Nigerians to update their National Identification Number (NIN) details exclusively through its official self-service portal to ensure data security and integrity.

In a statement signed by the Head of Corporate Communications on March 10, NIMC warned against using unauthorized websites, as they pose a risk of exposing personal information to fraudsters. The commission reassured the public that its self-service portal—SelfserviceModification.nimc.gov.ng—is secure, reliable, and allows users to update their information conveniently from anywhere.

Benefits of NIMC’s Self-Service Portal

NIMC highlighted that the portal streamlines the process of modifying NIN details, eliminating the need for in-person visits to enrollment centers. Users can update their name, phone number, date of birth, and address from the comfort of their homes, ensuring greater accessibility and efficiency.

Understanding NIN and NIMC

The National Identification Number (NIN) is a unique identifier issued by NIMC to Nigerian citizens and residents. It is crucial for accessing government services, banking, and official documentation. As part of Nigeria’s efforts to enhance identity management, NIMC ensures accurate record-keeping and security of personal information.

Established in 2007, NIMC is responsible for managing Nigeria’s national identity database. Its mission is to provide a secure and reliable system that supports national security and facilitates seamless identification for all residents.

For secure NIN modifications, Nigerians are urged to use SelfserviceModification.nimc.gov.ng and avoid unauthorized platforms.
