In a celebration of faith and leadership, a significant thanksgiving service was held on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at the Headquarters of the Nigerian Air Force Chaplaincy (Protestant) in Abuja to honor The Venerable Dr. Group Captain P.D. Otowo’s appointment as the new Director of Chaplaincy.
This event brought together senior military officers and chaplains from various branches, creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with gratitude, inspiring testimonies, and joy.
The Most Rev’d Dr. Emmanuel Egbunu, Bishop of Lokoja Diocese, delivered a powerful sermon that underscored the importance of thanksgiving, urging attendees to cultivate a grateful heart in all circumstances. His message resonated deeply, highlighting the blessings that come from acknowledging God’s grace.
The service marked a proud milestone for the Church of Nigeria, with Venerable Otowo, an esteemed Anglican priest, stepping into this distinguished role within the Air Force. The General Secretary of the Church of Nigeria, the Venerable Dr. Gershinen Paul Dajur, added further significance to the occasion by conveying greetings from the Primate, The Most Rev’d Dr. Henry C. Ndukuba. Venerable Dajur also led a special prayer for children dedicated by their families, enhancing the spiritual atmosphere of the gathering.
This historic service also united the Directors of Chaplaincy (Protestant) from the Army (The Venerable Lt Col. T.E. Ogbonyomi), Navy (The Reverend Lieutenant Commander Joseph Elises), and Air Force (The Venerable Dr. Group Captain P.D. Otowo)—all Anglican priests from the Oyo, Jalingo, and Lokoja Dioceses. Their collective presence highlighted the Anglican Church’s influence within military chaplaincies.
Former Chief of Defense Staff General Leo Irabor shared goodwill messages, praising Venerable Otowo for his exemplary service and leadership. The thanksgiving service became a memorable occasion, filled with themes of faith, unity, and overwhelming gratitude, leaving a lasting impact on all who attended.
