New Theological Accreditation and Regulatory Board Established by Church of Nigeria

The Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, The Most Rev’d Henry C. Ndukuba has inaugurated Theological Accreditation and Regulatory Board.

The board members were inaugurated during the All clergy conference held at Lagos comprising clergy, academics, and representatives from affiliated institutions.
The Primate noted during the inauguration that the theological education is the foundation of a strong and healthy Church. He emphasized that a poorly trained ordinand will become a poor Priest and then a terrible Bishop who can also became an Archbishop or a Primate.

The establishment of the board follows recommendations from the 2023 Church of Nigeria’s Theological Consultation and a subsequent ad-hoc committee. Its primary function is to regulate the admission, curriculum, and overall quality of theological colleges within the Anglican Communion in Nigeria.


Speaking with ACNN after the inauguration, the secretary of the board Ven. Dr. Princewill Ireoba express the readiness of the board to the mandate Church noting that the Church cannot afford to take theological education with a light hand and not well organized to ensure proper things are being done for the sake of the Church as a whole.

The board will also be responsible for vetting applications for new theological colleges, Conducting qualifying examinations for candidates to theological colleges and conducting regular inspections of existing institutions among other as it will be chaired by the Rt. Rev. Prof. Dapo Asaju who is the CoN Bishop Theologian and the Bishop of Ilesha Diocese.
