The Lagos State Government has advised motorists to take alternative routes after a container-laden truck crashed into the height barrier at the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge near Admiralty Road on Tuesday evening.
The 40-foot container truck collided with the steel height restriction while attempting to ascend the bridge, severely damaging the structure and blocking the access road. The barrier became lodged between the container and the truck’s cab, leaving the vehicle stuck at the bridge entrance.
The incident caused major traffic disruptions and gridlock in the area. As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, traffic was being diverted through the Lekki Phase 1 tollgate corridor.
Officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) were deployed to the scene to ease congestion and clear the obstruction.
LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs, Taofiq Adebayo, urged road users to remain calm, drive cautiously, and consider using alternative routes such as Ikoyi’s Kingsway Road.
