Ibok-Etes Ibas, the sole administrator of Rivers, has approved the appointment of administrators for the 23 local government areas in the state.

This decision comes less than 24hours after a federal high court in Port Harcourt restrained him from appointing administrators for the councils.

In a statement, Ibibia Worika, secretary to the state government, said the appointments take effect from April 7.

He also added that Ibas has also approved the reconstitution of several boards overseeing state agencies, commissions that had been previously suspended.

“His Excellency, the Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas CFR, has approved the appointments of administrators for the 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State,” the statement read.

“He has also approved the reconstitution of some boards of agencies, commissions, and parastatals earlier suspended. All appointments take effect from Monday, the 7th of April, 2025.”

On March 18, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers state, reason being a political crisis and vandalism of oil facilities.

He suspended Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of the state, his deputy and all members of the Rivers assembly for a period of six months.

The president appointed Ibas as the states sole administrator and shortly after his appointment, he suspended all political office holders appointed by Fubara.
