Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has condemned the killing of residents of Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area, describing the incident as an act of genocide.
The governor made this known on Wednesday night during a visit to the palace of the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Muazu Omar. According to him, the villagers were attacked by bandits on Tuesday evening after they refused to submit to indoctrination.
Governor Abdulrazaq also disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the deployment of a battalion of soldiers, known as Operation Savannah Shield, to eliminate bandits operating in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State and the National Park area of Borgu in Niger State.
The governor was accompanied by security chiefs during the visit, assured residents that bandits operating within the two state, would be flush out within one month.
Meanwhile, the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Muazu Omar, speaking emotionally, disclosed that about 75 villagers in Woro community were killed for resisting attempts by the bandits to brainwash them with teachings he described as un-Islamic.
The traditional ruler added that the villagers’ refusal reportedly triggered sporadic gunfire, and alleged that two vehicles belonging to the village head were used by the attackers to transport several abducted residents.
