The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken responsibility for the continued presence of cattle on major roads and streets across Abuja.
Speaking on Monday during his routine monthly media chat with selected journalists in the nation’s capital, the minister expressed regret over the situation and assured residents that efforts are ongoing to address the challenge.
Wike acknowledged that the issue has persisted despite measures being implemented by the Federal Capital Territory Administration under his leadership to improve the city’s environment and infrastructure.
“I apologise that, up till now, there are still cows roaming the streets of Abuja; I take responsibility,” the minister stated.
The presence of roaming cattle on roads within the Federal Capital Territory has remained a recurring concern among residents, many of whom have repeatedly raised concerns about traffic disruptions and safety risks associated with the development.
The minister also highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects across the territory, noting that development efforts are not restricted to the Abuja city centre alone.
According to him, the FCT Administration is extending projects to satellite towns and area councils, with investments covering key sectors such as road construction, water supply, and housing.
“Our attention is not only on developing the city centre of Abuja. We are also working in all the area councils. We are providing infrastructure everywhere across the FCT,” he said.
Wike maintained that the administration remains committed to improving infrastructure and living conditions across all parts of the Federal Capital Territory.
