Two herdsmen, Hassan Amodua and Abubakar Abdullah, have been arrested for kidnap and killing of another colleague, Taye Amosun, in Ogun State.
The State Police Command said Amodu was killed two weeks ago by his colleagues while eight cattle belonging to him were taken away.
The Commands Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement made available to INDEPENDENT, Sunday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, said the suspects were arrested in an hideout in Imeko area of the state.
According to him, a pump action gun loaded with live cartridges was recovered from the herdsmen alongside other weapons.
Oyeyemi explained that the victim was kidnapped in Obada/Oko area while his remains were buried in a shallow grave.
The suspects, according to the police, killed the victim after he allegedly struggled with them during the robbery.
The statement read in part, “Two herdsmen suspected to be kidnappers and cattle rustlers have been arrested by men of Ogun state police command in connection with the kidnap and killing of another herdsman by name Taye Amodu.
“The duo of Hassan Amodu and Abubakar Abdullah kidnapped Taye Amodu on the 23rd of October 2017 at Obada Oko area of Abeokuta and equally made away with eight cows belonging to the victim.
“On receiving the information, the commissioner of police Ahmed Iliyasu directed the officer in charge of FSARS, DSP Uba Adam to fish out the hoodlums within the shortest possible period of time.
“The hideout in a thick forest was stormed by the operatives where the two suspects were arrested. Recovered from them are one pump action gun loaded with four live cartridges and two cutlasses.
“On interrogation, they confessed to killing the victim because he was struggling with them while they were taking him away and the body was buried in a shallow grave inside the forest. They equally confessed taking away eight cows of the victim.”
The suspects, police said, would be arraigned in court soon.
