Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Abiodun Adams, has expressed deep frustration with President Bola Tinubu, accusing him of failing those who supported his rise to power.
Adams criticized Tinubu’s management of the petroleum sector, particularly the recent sharp increase in the price of petrol, which he claims is exacerbating the suffering of Nigerians. He called on the President to reverse what he described as an “ugly trend,” emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
In an open letter to Tinubu, Adams remarked, “During the 2023 election campaign, the promise of ‘Emilokan’ led many Nigerians to believe that you, as a modern democrat, would perform better than Muhammadu Buhari, whose tenure saw increased poverty and insecurity. Unfortunately, current events suggest that belief was misplaced. You have profoundly disappointed those who saw you as their savior.”
He pointed out that fuel prices, which were under N200 when Tinubu assumed office, have now surged beyond N1000, demonstrating a lack of sensitivity from the administration. Adams argued that the government’s indifference to the public’s hardship is a severe affront to Nigerians.
Adams continued, “Your administration appears increasingly detached and unresponsive to the struggles of millions of Nigerians who are unable to meet their basic needs. This relentless rise in fuel prices, particularly when people are already at their breaking point, risks causing further crisis.”
He criticized Tinubu’s economic team, questioning their effectiveness and accusing them of failing to address Nigeria’s worsening economic conditions. Adams also drew a disturbing comparison to Adolf Hitler’s regime, suggesting that Tinubu’s administration risks echoing the destructive path of historical tyranny.
Adams concluded by urging the President to heed the truth and address the issues at hand, warning that failure to do so could lead to dire consequences for the country.
