UK health authorities announced that sensitive data from a ransomware attack, which caused significant disruption at London hospitals, was published online on Friday.

The cyberattack, which occurred earlier this month, targeted service supplier Synnovis and significantly impacted blood transfusions, leading to the cancellation of hundreds of appointments and operations.

The attack affected some of the largest hospitals in the UK, including King’s College Hospital and Guy’s and St Thomas’ in central London.

“NHS England has been informed that the cybercriminal group published data last night, claiming it belongs to Synnovis and was stolen during this attack,” stated the organization that oversees the state-run National Health Service (NHS) in England.

As reported by the BBC, the Russian cybercriminal group Qilin has publicly shared nearly 400 gigabytes of data, which includes patient names, dates of birth, NHS numbers, and descriptions of blood tests, on their darknet site and Telegram channel.

The cyberattack, which targeted Synnovis—a pathology service primarily operating in southeast London—occurred on June 3rd.

NHS England stated, “We understand that this may be concerning, and we are actively collaborating with Synnovis, the National Cyber Security Centre, and other partners to swiftly determine the contents of the published files.”
