The Anglican Communion, Nnewi Diocese in a bid to give Nnewi Community access road has embarked on construction of road at St. Marys Cathedral, Uruagu Nnewi, in Nnewi North Local government of Anambra state. The project is a conception of the new bishop of Anglican Communion, Nnewi Diocese Rt. Rev. Ndubisi Chukwuka Obi.

The Bishop on seeing that the community has no access road through which they go about their business have resorted to using a part of the church premises as road which is not safe for them and worshipers, he decided to embark on construction of road network that connect the neighboring town (Oraifite) and Uruagu Nnewi to the popular Nkwo market.

A member of the cathedral special committee and Knight of St. Christopher Hon. Sir Humphrey Nsofor(former Majority Leader of Anambra State House of Assembly) who is in charge of the committee working on the site told members of the press who stormed the construction site that the project is a massive one, he said the cathedral had to relocate families that had their lands encroach into the project and also gave them money. The said that the road will ease movement of goods and services from within and outside the community. The road project which is about 130m long and 7.5m wide started with construction of standard drainage system. He is pleased with the corporation of the community and the church to deliver the project.

In the same vane, the Archdeacon cathedral church of St. Mary Nnewi, Ven Nelson Emeonu (JP) who represented the Bishop said the project is a corporate social responsibility of the church, it is a way of giving hope to the community. He said that the Bishop is the backbone behind the project with the assistance of Hon. Egnr. Sir Humphrey Nsofor who has taken the project far.

The project expected to solve the problem of commuters who go in and out of the Nkwo Nnewi market, it is a very important project and a very good one from the church to the community.
After the construction, commuters will have easy access to the market and it will be safer both for them and the worshipers who go in and out of the St. Marys Cathedral Uruagu Nnewi.

Some community members who spoke to newsmen thanked the Bishop and the entire members of the cathedral church for bringing such a project in this time, they prayed God to bless them and replenish from wherever the funds came from.

From the project management team, the road construction is expected to be completed in couple of weeks ahead.
