The Archbishop, Metropolitan, and Primate of All Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Reverend Henry Ndukuba, has urged churches to prioritize investment in youth development to mitigate potential societal crises. Ndukuba observed that the neglect of young people by churches has contributed to the nation’s growing challenges, many of which are driven by youth.
In an interview marking the 35th anniversary of the Abuja Diocese of the Anglican Church, Archbidshop Ndukuba emphasized that the Anglican Communion remains firmly rooted in scripture, Christ-centered, and committed to upholding family values. He noted that every young person carries aspirations and passions that, with the right support and guidance, can be harnessed for positive outcomes.
“When we fail to nurture our youth, they are likely to stray, becoming challenges for families, churches, and society at large—something we are witnessing today,” he said.
He underscored the need to invest in the future of children and youth, identifying them as crucial to the growth and sustainability of families, the church, and society. “The most important investment the church can make is in its children and youth because they are the future generation,” Archbishop Ndukuba remarked, adding that the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has faced significant challenges in recent years.
Calling for a reassessment of the church’s mission, Archbishop Ndukuba highlighted the potential of youth as indispensable allies in advancing God’s Kingdom. He reiterated their critical role in ensuring the church fulfills its purpose and reaches greater heights.
Reflecting on the history of the Abuja Diocese, Archbishop Ndukuba acknowledged its transformative impact on the Anglican Communion in Nigeria. “As we celebrate, we give thanks for God’s faithfulness and the collaborative efforts that have sustained us over the past 35 years,” he said.
He celebrated the diocese’s journey from its beginnings as a mission outpost, praising the vision of its founding leaders and God’s continued guidance. According to Archbishop Ndukuba, the 35th-anniversary celebration is not just a commemoration of past achievements but also an opportunity to reflect on present realities and prepare for future possibilities.
“We are hopeful that this celebration will renew our faith and strengthen us to face today’s challenges with a fresh spirit,” he concluded.
