Renowned preacher and president of Sword of the Spirit Ministries International, Bishop Wale Oke, last Tuesday commissioned a block of flats for staff residence named after him at the Offa meta campus of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo. Bishop Wale Oke, who is also the Chancellor of Precious Cornerstone University, Ibadan, came for the commissioning with his wife. He expressed gratitude to the University for naming a block of the staff quarters after him, stating that when he came to lay the foundation for the block of flats at the early stage of the nationwide lockdown occasioned, occasioned by the Corona Virus, he did not envisage that that the building will be finished in such record time and, to cap his surprise, named after him.
He heaped encomiums on the Vice-Chancellor, Rt. Rev. Professor Dapo Asaju, whom he described as visionary and energetic. He also described members of the University Management as supportive. Bishop Wale Oke used the opportunity to disclose that he has a background in the Anglican Church.
‘My father was a lay reader in the Anglican Church in my village for 48 years. I have always related with the church. I have renovated the church in my village, help to pay the stipend to the priest, their assessment, and we have recently got land and started building a new Anglican church in the area. I have done all these in honour of my father. I am humbled by this honour done to me by Ajayi Crowther University’ he said.
Before commissioning the building, the Vice-Chancellor had taken him, along with his entourage, on a facility tour of the campus, one of the three established under the watch of Asaju as Vice- Chancellor. Bishop Wale Oke was shown the class room blocks and office complex for the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Senate Chambers, Council Chambers, Vice-Chancellor’s office, and those of other Principal Officers, two hostels, and a cafeteria, under construction. He expressed satisfaction with the prudence with which the funds of the University are managed, stating that so much has been achieved with little funds. He said Precious Corner stone University, Ibadan, would borrow a leaf from Ajayi Crowther University in running its funds. Members of the University Management accompanied the Vice- Chancellor and Bishop Wale Oke’s entourage.
