At the 1st Session of the 9th Synod and Silver Jubilee Fellowship Award Service of the Igbomina Diocese Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Right Reverend Emmanuel Adekola urged religious leaders to adopt peaceful and respectful methods in spreading their faith. The event took place at Saint Stephen’s Anglican Church, Agbonda, Kwara State.

Bishop Adekola emphasized that peace is central to evangelism, stating that while Christians are responsible for preaching the gospel, it is the Holy Spirit that convicts individuals. He stressed that any approach contrary to peace undermines the true message of Christ.

Addressing the nation’s economic difficulties, Bishop Adekola called on political leaders to prioritize the needs of Nigerians, serve selflessly, and avoid self-interest. He also encouraged farmers facing insecurity to start home gardens and use sacks for planting to sustain their families.

In his address themed “As My Father Has Sent Me, So Sent I You,” Archbishop Israel Amoo of the Kwara Ecclesiastical Province reminded both leaders and followers of their accountability and urged them to serve with sincerity and integrity. He also criticized politicians for making unfulfilled promises that disappoint the public.

Reverend Canon Peter Owolabi, who led the Synod Bible Study from John 20:21, highlighted Jesus Christ’s commission to Christians to lead others to God. He urged pastors and church members to focus on spiritual goals rather than personal gain.

Dr. Abiola Adimula, Deputy Chancellor of the Igbomina Diocese Anglican Communion, encouraged Christians in influential positions to contribute meaningfully to their faith-based organizations and the church. She also urged Nigerian youths to use their talents for the service of God and humanity.

The Synod, attended by notable figures including Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (represented by Reverend T. O. Akangbe), Right Reverend Sunday Adewole, and other dignitaries, also saw the inauguration of the Oro Missionary Archdeaconry and the presentation of awards to individuals for their significant contributions to their communities and the church.
