The Bishop Theologian of the Church of Nigeria, Rt. Rev. Dapo Asaju has said the absence of purposeful leadership is the major problem facing Nigeria.
Asaju, who is the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, said this at the Post Presentation Thanksgiving Service homily and reception of the new Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province (Anglican Communion), the Most Rev David Okechukwu Chikezie Onuoha at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul Ezeoke Nsu, Ehime Mbano, Imo State.
The don recalled the period the value of dollar was far below the Naira, saying at that period, goods and services were affordable. It is, however, unfortunate that the reverse is the case today.
He noted that the country is experiencing high cost of living, severe unemployment, under-employment and insecurity, among others, while the leaders seem unbothered.
He described Most Rev. David Onuoha as a man of Grace, whom God has gradually guided from childhood to the Arch Episcopacy of the Church.
Bishop Asaju called on the Archbishop not to disappoint his people, but to replicate his achievements as the Bishop of Okigwe South, Chairman of Trinity College Council and member of GAFCON Theological Resource Group in Owerri Province, now that he is the leader. He prescribed seven key areas of focus for the new Archbishop, as he performs his duties and prayed that the good Lord will always stand by him.
The service was attended by about 20 Archbishops and Bishops, including the Dean of the Church of Nigeria, Most Rev. Ali Buba Lamido; the Executive Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma; former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi; Minister of State, Education, Barr. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba; Speaker and some members of Imo State House of Assembly; Ag Chief Judge of the State; members of the State Executive Council and notable traditional rulers, among others.
Highlights of the ceremony were the cutting of the Thanksgiving Cake and the birthday cake by Governor Uzodimma, who celebrated his birthday on the same day.
There was also a presentation of a brand new Toyota Hilux van 2020 model to the Archbishop by the Diocese of Okigwe South, through Sir Ben Okoronkwo, the Chairman of the Post Presentation Planning committee.
