Topic: GOD KNOWS OUR WORKS
Text: 1 Kings 6:7-13
6:7 And the temple, when it was being built, was built with stone finished at the quarry, so that no hammer or chisel or any iron tool was heard in the temple while it was being built.
6:8 The doorway for the [j]middle story was on the right side of the temple. They went up by stairs to the middle story, and from the middle to the third.
6:9 So he built the [k]temple and finished it, and he paneled the temple with beams and boards of cedar.
6:10 And he built side chambers against the entire temple, each five cubits high; they were attached to the temple with cedar beams.
6:11 Then the word of the Lord came to Solomon, saying:
6:12 “Concerning this [l]temple which you are building, if you walk in My statutes, execute My judgments, keep all My commandments, and walk in them, then I will perform My [m]word with you, which I spoke to your father David.
6:13 And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake My people Israel.”
STUDY:
In our text, we read that the stones used in the construction of the Temple were prepared at the quarry, so that there was no sound of a hammer or any other tool heard at the building site. The noiseless construction of the house of worship, is Solomon’s way to show his and the people’s care, concern, honour, and respect for God and His sanctuary. The LORD who was taking notice of the work, gave an encouraging message to Solomon, that if he remained faithful to Him, the Temple he was building would become an eternal dwelling place for Him (God) (vv. 11-13). God knows our works. He is taking notice of all we do.
We are not alone as we work for Him, for He will, every now and then, reach out to us to ensure that we finish well and strong. Never must we give up, but keep trusting until every work we begin for the LORD, is completed. God expects us to remain faithful so that in due course, He will reward us. The phrase, ‘I know your works’, appears in each letter to the seven churches in the province of Asia in the book of Revelation, demonstrating that the omniscient and omnipresent Judge is watching to reward us according to our works.
Prayer:
Father, help us to remain faithful to You so that in due course, our good works may be rewarded. Amen.
