TOPIC: The Seven Blessings of Unity

TEXT: Psalm 133:1-3 (NKJV)

133:1 A Song of Ascents. Of David. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
133:2 It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down on the beard, the beard of Aaron, running down on the edge of his garments.
133:3 It is like the dew of Hermon, descending upon the mountains of Zion; for there the LORD commanded the blessing — life forevermore.

STUDY:

The absence of unity in the society has brought uncountable ills and consequences to all fabrics of life today. The Scriptures lay great emphasis on unity, and God also testified about what unity can achieve in the building of the Tower of Babel (Gen. 11:6). Jesus taught that a house divided against itself will surely collapse (Matt. 12:25) and prayed for the unity of His Church (John 17:11). Apostle Paul enjoins believers to “make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace” (Eph. 4:3).

The benefits of unity in today’s text are:

  1. Good and pleasant relationships (v.1)
  2. Healing and peace (v.2)
  3. Positive impact on every part or member of the body (v.2)
  4. Enables followers to enjoy blessings of leaders (v.2)
  5. Attracts material blessings (v.3; cf. Gen. 27:28 – dew of Hermon is like the dew of heaven)
  6. Makes God command His blessings of peace, joy, good health, progress, victory over enemies, and prosperity (v.3; 1 Sam. 11:7c)
  7. Leads to abundant life, both here and hereafter (v.3)

We must repent today in any way we have been used to bring disunity where we are. We must intentionally seek and pursue things that promote unity in the body of Christ. It is only in Christ that we can find real unity.

PRAYER:

We pray for unity in our families, churches, and nation, O Lord! Amen.

Conclusion

Unity is not only a fundamental aspect of Christian living but also a divine blessing that brings countless benefits to our lives. The seven blessings of unity as outlined in Psalm 133 are essential for personal growth, communal peace, and spiritual prosperity. When we dwell together in unity, we enjoy good relationships, healing, material blessings, and God’s commanded blessings of peace, joy, and progress. More importantly, unity leads to abundant life both on earth and in eternity. As Christians, we must strive to foster unity in our families, churches, and communities, recognizing that it is only through Christ that we can achieve real, lasting unity.

May we continuously pray for unity, seeking God’s Spirit to help us build stronger bonds that reflect His will in all we do.
