TOPIC: THINK ON AND DO USEFUL THINGS
Text: Philippians 4:1-9
4:1 Therefore, my beloved and longed-for brethren, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, beloved.
4:2 I implore Euodia and I implore Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord.
4:3 And I urge you also, true companion, help these women who labored with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the Book of Life.
4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!
4:5 Let your [b]gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.
4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
4:7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
4:9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
STUDY:
As Paul concluded his letter to the Philippian church, he raised critical matters that we need to consider. First, he charged them to stand fast in the Lord. Second, he advised Euodias, and Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord. Third, he advised that those women who laboured with him in the gospel, with other fellow labourers, should be helped. They were also to always rejoice in the Lord and do things in moderation; to make their requests known unto God in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving.
Finally, they were urged to think on whatsoever things are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report; any virtue, and any praise, as well as to do those things, which they have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in him.
As Christians, we are expected to strive for the truth, and be honest and just in our relationships with both those in the faith and those outside it. Note that there were many others who went through this journey of life victoriously and at present, they form part of the great cloud of witnesses over our heavenly race (Heb. 12:1). We must learn from them by being careful to do what we saw in them and heard from them.
Prayer:
Lord please help me to think on what is pleasing to you and to always do same in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
