Topic: THE NIGHT COMETH

Text:1 Kings 11:41-43

11:41     Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, all that he did, and his wisdom, are they not written in the book of the acts of Solomon?

11:42  And the period that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years.

11:43  Then Solomon [a]rested with his fathers, and was buried in the City of David his father. And Rehoboam his son reigned in his place.

STUDY:

Solomon’s night came and he died and was buried in David’s City, just as his fathers were. There is an appointment of death waiting for every man on earth. “For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and saw corruption” (Acts 13:36). And now Solomon had also served in his own time and had gone the way of his fathers. Note two things about man’s appointment: (i) The urgency and pursuit to accomplish God’s plan and purpose for our lives (ii) The purpose of God for each one of us is time-bound. We don’t have forever to live and do the will of God.

All that David did was within his allocated time of destiny; same with Solomon. He also fell asleep. Since this is the way every man must go, what manner of life ought we to live? We must do the work of Him that created, saved and sent us, now that it is day, for night cometh when no man can work. We must serve the Lord now that we have the physical strength, resources and time. We don’t have forever to serve God and do His will. We must also be reminded that we shall give account of our stewardship on earth as records are being taken of our actions and inactions.

Prayer:

Father, help me to number my days that I may apply my heart to wisdom.
