1:12 These are [a]spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried [b]about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots;
1:13 raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.
1:14 Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints,
1:15 to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.
1:16 These are grumblers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts; and they mouth great swelling words, flattering people to gain advantage.
STUDY:
Our scripture passage today warns Christians against the danger of fake pastors who are wasting the community of Christians and misleading several believers with the appearance of righteousness on the internet and other media, both in action and words. Jude likens these people to hidden reefs, waterless clouds, trees without fruits, and wandering stars. These images convey the emptiness, instability, and destructive influence of fake preachers on genuine Christians. Jesus also warned about false prophets in Matthew 7:15, saying, “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.” In 2 Peter 2:10-12, Peter warns of similar false teachers who are “bold and willful” and “blaspheme the glorious ones.”
We must be careful to test what we hear against God’s Word, as was done by the Berean Christians in Acts 17:11, and press on in faithfulness to His teachings, given that Jesus is the Truth Himself (John 14:6). Do not engage in unnecessary argument, rather follow Jesus Christ as your standard as shown in the Scripture.
Prayer:
Lord, protect me from the subtle influences of false prophets and teachers that seek to lead me astray, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
