Former Argentina president Carlos Menem was discharged from hospital on Monday after two weeks receiving treatment for pneumonia, local media reported.

The senator, who will turn 90 on Thursday, is due to continue his recovery at home.

Menem, who was president from 1989-99, was taken to hospital on June 13 suffering from a severe pneumonia and required intensive care.

He was tested for coronavirus but came up negative, medical sources said.

Following a week in intensive care, he recovered quickly.

Since entering the Senate in 2005, Menem has kept a much lower profile than during his presidency when he pursued an aggressive privatization policy.
