In partnership with the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), the Edo State Government plans to meter approximately 500,000 homes across the state.
Announcing the initiative on Saturday, the Commissioner for Mining, Energy, Oil, and Gas, Enaholo Ojiefo, stated that the project would kick off on August 13, aiming to address the challenge of estimated billing.
Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with BEDC management in his office, the commissioner revealed that the project would extend to all three senatorial districts in the state.
He also mentioned that each household would receive a government-subsidized meter, protected by an insurance policy. Subscribers can expect to receive their meters within 10 days of payment, with access to the payment portal starting on August 14. The Commissioner emphasized that the meters would be delivered promptly.
He further explained, “The Edo State Government, in collaboration with the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, will distribute meters to about 500,000 homes in the state.
“The exercise, beginning on August 13, will address the issue of estimated billing and will cover all three senatorial districts.”
