To mark the 2022 world environment day, Ecosmart Initiative (a Nigerian climate change advocacy organization) plugged into the global theme: LIVING SUSTAINABLY IN HARMONY WITH NATURE using the year’s slogan “only one earth”
The organization in collaboration with Naija Adventurers (an Abuja-based tourism group) had an “Only One Earth” hiking campaign to sensitize and raise awareness on climate issues and possible solutions.
With about 200 people in attendance, the event was a success. Sonia Somuvie, the founder of Ecosmart
The initiative, during a talk session, emphasized the need for individuals to take responsibility for their immediate environment and to practice sustainable habits like recycling, seed preservation, proper waste disposal, tree planting, and the use of zero/low carbon emission energy sources as a means of contributing to climate change action.
She also shed light on the effects of climate change on the environment, the weather, loss of biodiversity and our health and human health.
Following their previous clean-up exercises at the Fishermen village and Kpanda settle in Jabi last month, the organization had grown in the numbers of volunteers and they wish that more people would join in the movement to prevent possible mayhem from the effects of climate change.
She concluded the sensitization sessions with appreciation as she then appreciated the Naija Adventurers for the partnership and every volunteer of Ecosmart for their hearty support and encouragement.
