PRESS RELEASE FOR PRE-SYNOD 2021 OF IJESA NORTH ANGLICAN DIOCESE ON THE STATE OF THE NATION BY THE RT. REVD. DR. ISAAC I. OLUYAMO, JP.

The state in which our Nation Nigeria is, is very alarming and critical. Nigeria is bleeding, but it is some of us that are responsible for it.  There are killings here and there by the Boko haram insurgency, Bandits, herdsmen secessionist etc.

People are being kidnapped everyday on our highways. Higher institutions are not safe for our children again. Recently, the students of Greenfield University in Kaduna State were kidnapped. Unfortunately, it was heard that some of the students were killed by their abductors. Even in Katsina State, a mosque was attacked while 40 worshippers were kidnapped. Fulani herdsmen are chasing away our people from their lands.  All these are really threatening our peace as a country.

We can no longer sleep with our two eyes. The security agents are helpless. This is the high time for the people of goodwill who have the love of this country at heart to lean their voices against these abnormalities that are gradually becoming normal.

It is very unfortunate that this present government voted into power with the hope that they will find solution to the problems of this Country are so helpless. One can even say without mincing words that there is high rate of insecurity in this government than the previous governments in Nigeria.

Some people are of the opinion that perhaps, this present government is allowing what is happening in order for the military to take over from them. According to General Sani Abacha, “If insurgency last for more than 24 hours, the government has a hand in it.” And if the military eventually takes over, the country will go back to square one. God forbid.

The South West Governors came together with the idea of “Amotekun”. If “Amotekun” will be a way forward in order for our country to be at peace as she used to be the government should back them up and other regions.

We cannot continue to live our lives in fears every day. The government should come out with a good strategy that will curb this insecurity in our land. A wise government would call people to round table to share ideas, call for round table discussion is part of the solution to the insecurity of the nation.
