In a hard-fought quarterfinal match, Nigeria’s D’Tigress were defeated 74-88 by the United States, bringing to an end a historic Olympic run.
This loss concludes Nigeria’s participation in the women’s basketball event at the ongoing Paris Olympics. Rena Wakama’s team showed resilience, winning the final quarter 26-12, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the earlier deficit as the USA held on to secure their place in the semifinals.
Nigeria had previously lost the first three quarters with scores of 17-26, 16-26, and 15-24. Throughout the tournament, D’Tigress achieved significant milestones, including their first-ever Olympic victory and becoming the first African team to reach the quarterfinals in Olympic basketball history.
