The Priesthood of Jesus is said to be greater than any other priest ever mentioned in the history of the world. In the time past, Priests use the blood of animals to perform sacrifices to atone for their sins but in this present day, the blood of Jesus has become the ultimate sacrifice for the atonement of the sins of the world.
This was the assertion of the Anglican bishop of the diocese of Zonkwa, the Rt. Revd. Jacob Kwashi, in his ministration, at the Abuja diocesan Lenten meditation, the Way of the cross, which was held at the Basilica of Grace, Gudu District, Abuja, with the theme ‘the new and living way’.
Speaking on the sub-theme ‘Jesus our great high priest’, curved from Hebrews chapter 1-10, the cleric emphasized that Jesus is the greatest high priest ever lived in the world’s history, that no one born or yet to be born will match His greatness.
According to bishop kwashi, the book of Hebrews is a conclusion that Jesus is a great High Priest and everything about him is great. Adding that in chapter 1 of the book of Hebrews, God spoke to his children through the prophets but after the birth of Jesus God spoke through Jesus.
“The Priesthood of Jesus is greater than any other priest in the Old Testament and the New Testament. Priests of the old testaments use the blood of animals to perform sacrifices to atone for their sins, but the blood of Jesus is the ultimate sacrifice which he sacrificed himself for the atonement of the sins of this world”.
The bishop pointed out in the book of Hebrews that Angels did not sacrifice themselves for the world only Jesus did which shows how divine and loving Jesus is. The bishop said, in chapter 3 the writer made us understand that Jesus is greater than Moses and implored the congregation to remove fear from their hearts when following Jesus because he is the only one that can give the sabbath rest. There is none like Jesus. Jesus is a guarantee for our better covenant, when Jesus saves a sinner, he saves completely. And he is still interceding for our lives today.
“Jesus is superior to Angels, and Angels are not to be worshipped or prayed to. Angels worship Jesus and, God has put everything under the feet of Jesus so Jesus can solve any problem, hence, those worshipping angels are wasting their time”.
The bishop encouraged the congregation to draw near to God with a sincere heart, stressing that Christians should shun anything taking the place of God in their lives.
As he beckoned on all to release themselves to Christ and worship him in the sincerity of heart.
