The Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has described the formation of the Special Weapons and Tactics, SWAT, unit of the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, as a right step in the right direction.

Ganduje made the remark while commending President Muhammadu Buhari for the formation of SWAT, NAN reports.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Adamu had formed SWAT as a replacement for the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, following protest by Nigerians.
The Kano State governor pointed out that SWAT would help combat crime in the country.
Ganduje’s position was disclosed in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Abba Anwar, on Wednesday.
“We noticed that there are protests in some sections of the country while in Kano, the youth decided to take a good stand by not condemning the police as an institution, rather condemned the few bad eggs among them.

“Without the police, can we move freely in the country?

“We are only calling for the fishing out of the bad eggs among the institution; no more, no less.

“SWAT formation is a good step in the right direction and reforming the police institution is what our youth are agitating for,” he said.
