Primate Ndukuba Appoints Professor Olugbemiro Jegede As His Education Matters Adviser

The Primate of the Church of Nigeria, The Most Rev’d Dr. Henry C. Ndukuba has appointed Professor Olugbemiro Jegede as the adviser on education matters in the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion.

The Primate, in the appointment letter to Prof. Jegede, noted that after careful consideration of his remarkable achievements and extensive experience in the field of education, he comes well considered to guide the Church in its mission work in education.

Archbishop Ndukuba noted the exceptional contributions of the Professor to the policy and administration spheres of education which he said has earned him a well-deserved reputation as a renowned Professor. ‘’Your expertise and deep understanding of educational systems and practices will undoubtedly prove invaluable in guiding the Church of Nigeria’s efforts to enhance the quality of education within our community”.

Professor Jegede will be responsible for providing expert advice on matters related to education, including policy development, curriculum design, teacher training, and educational initiatives.

This appointment is with immediate effect and spans a period of three years.

Professor Olugbemiro Jegede is the foundation Vice Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria. He is the immediate past Secretary to the Kogi State Government and also the immediate past Secretary-General and Chief Executive of the Association of African Universities.

Prior to his special assignment in Nigeria, Professor Jegede served in various capacities in different parts of the world including being the Staff in charge of the M.Ed program by ODL at the Curtin University of Technology Science and Mathematics Education Centre, Perth, Australia; founding Director, Centre for Research in Distance & Adult Learning, The Open University of Hong Kong; Foundation Head, Research & Evaluation Unit Distance Education Centre, The University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba, Australia; and Foundation Dean and Professor of Education; Head, Department of Education, Faculty of Education, The University of Abuja, Nigeria.

Professor Olugbemiro Jegede, at the invitation of the Federal Government of Nigeria to restart open and distance learning activities in Nigeria, assumed the position as the National Coordinator of the National Open and Distance Learning Programmes in 2001 and subsequently was appointed in 2003 as the founding and current Vice Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

The Primate expressed his confidence that his passion, dedication, and wealth of experience will significantly contribute to the success of the Church’s educational endeavors.
