The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has dismissed claims that the recent nationwide prayer gathering was organised by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) or its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.

In a statement released by its Media Bureau, PFN National Secretary, Bishop David Bakare, said the programme was solely initiated and coordinated by the fellowship in response to the country’s economic and security challenges.

Bakare explained that the decision was reached during a meeting of the PFN National Executive Council on May 19, where members resolved to mobilise Pentecostal Christians across the country for a three-day period of fasting and prayer.

According to him, all participating churches, including RCCG, merely complied with directives issued by the fellowship.

“It is unfair and misleading to attribute the programme to Pastor E.A. Adeboye or the RCCG. The initiative was entirely a PFN affair,” he said.

The cleric added that the prayer gathering coincided with Pentecost Sunday, a major Christian observance celebrated globally, stressing that the event was not unique to RCCG or churches in Nigeria.

Bakare also disclosed that PFN had initially considered public processions and the use of placards as part of the programme but later shelved the idea over security concerns.

He said the fellowship opted for a more cautious approach to prevent criminal elements from hijacking the exercise and creating security challenges.

The PFN expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the programme, noting that it successfully mobilised Christians to pray for the nation while drawing attention to the concerns of Nigerians.

The fellowship further condemned what it described as growing attacks and false accusations against Christian leaders, warning against the spread of misinformation and defamatory reports.

It also commended RCCG for participating in the initiative alongside other Pentecostal churches, describing its involvement as part of its commitment to collective Christian engagements.

Reaffirming its commitment to national development, PFN said it would continue to advocate for justice, good governance and improved security while encouraging Nigerians to embrace truth and reject misinformation.
