The federal government has authorized an increase in the cost of obtaining a Nigerian passport.
KT Udo, spokesperson for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), disclosed the revised fees in a statement on Wednesday, explaining that the hike is part of the government’s efforts to uphold the quality and integrity of the Nigerian standard passport.
According to Udo, the fee for the 32-page passport booklet, which is valid for five years, has been raised from N35,000 to N50,000. Similarly, the 64-page booklet, with a 10-year validity, will now cost N100,000, up from N70,000.
The new fees will take effect on September 1.
“Following the review, the 32-page passport booklet with a 5-year validity, previously priced at Thirty-five Thousand Naira (N35,000.00), will now cost Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000.00). The 64-page passport booklet with a 10-year validity, previously Seventy Thousand Naira (N70,000.00), will now be One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000.00),” the statement reads.
However, Udo noted that the passport fees for Nigerians in the diaspora will remain unchanged. While the NIS regrets any inconvenience caused by the increase, it assures Nigerians of its continued commitment to transparency and quality service delivery.
