Several construction workers remain trapped under the rubble of a collapsed two-storey building in Ikota, Lekki, Lagos, as rescue operations continue.

Emergency responders from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the police have so far rescued two victims.

Eyewitnesses report that most of those trapped were construction workers who were inside the building when it collapsed around 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Lagos NSCDC Commandant, Mr. Adedotun Keshinro, confirmed that the corps’ disaster management team, alongside personnel from the Eti-Osa Police Division and other agencies, is actively engaged in the search-and-rescue operation.

“We received a distress call from concerned residents about a two-storey building under construction that collapsed around 1500hrs in the Ikota area of Lekki, trapping several workers inside,” Keshinro stated.

“While search, rescue, and recovery efforts are ongoing, our personnel at the scene have confirmed the successful rescue of two individuals alive,” he added.
