The Most Rev’d David O. C. Onuoha (DOCO) has been presented to the Church as the Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province of Owerri by the Primate of All Nigeria Most Rev’d Henry Ndukuba at the Cathedral Church of Advent, Life Camp, Gwarinpa, Abuja.
The Presentation service, which held last Tuesday, 22nd September, 2020 as one of the activities that started the 13th General Synod of the Church of Nigeria, was attended by delegates from the House of Bishops, the House of Clergy and the House of Laity from all Dioceses in the country. In attendance also was the former Governor of Imo State, the Rt Hon. Sir Emeka Ihedioha.
The Preacher at the service, the Most Rev’d Emmanuel Ebbunu, Bishop of Lokoja, charged the clergy to continue to establish the reign of God in this dispensation. Reading from 1Peter 5:1-5, he called on the New Archbishop to be an example to the flock he is called to shepherd.
Egbunu said Peter though, the head of the early church, exhorted and implored the people he worked with. The New Archbishop was charged to exercise oversight over God’s sheep, and this calls for diplomacy and not giving orders and commands. He is not to be domineering but to lead and be an example to the flock.
The Bishop of Lokoja also called on the clergy, who are now in the frontline, to take their duties with commitment and total sacrifice. “The sheep belong to Christ,” Egbunu said, “and not to anyone and Jesus will request an account for them.” There will be chastisement for default, the Archbishop pointed out.
