The founder of Ecosmart Initiative, Sonia Somuvie in an interview on Monday, June 12th, 2023, said, “Nigeria can make her environmental sector work, all it will take are policies and workable execution strategies.’
The environmentalist, while speaking on the beauty of democracy and how it can impact the environment, urged lawmakers to use democracy positively and emphasized that the Ministry of environment should be intentional about these policies. “Getting the masses involved is a sure way to ensure inclusivity and sustainable results. There should be collaborative efforts between ministries also.
for example, if the Ministries of Health and Information, synergies with the Ministry of the Environment on a nationwide campaign on pollution, the echo and responses from the masses would be great. More Public-private ventures and even NGOs also need to take on the front line, in support of a neater, greener, and richer environment.
This is what the likes of the PRINCE NED NWOKO FOUNDATION, malaria eradication project, SOLO PLUG and even my initiative, ECOSMART INITIATIVE are doing.”
She exclaimed that Nigeria is the only country we have, that the quality of life of the mases would greatly improve following better environmental policies and implementation processes. She urged the masses to also demand for policies, infrastructures and amenities that favors their environment, as it is their civil rights, especially on a day as this (democracy day).
