Kampala Welcomes New Assistant Bishop

During a special synod meeting held on August 13, 2024, at All Saints’ Cathedral in Kampala, Venerable Rev Canon Jackson Fredrick Baalwa was confirmed as the 5th Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of Kampala.

Currently serving as the Archdeacon of Southern Archdeaconry within the Diocese of Kampala, Canon Baalwa’s appointment was announced by The Most Rev Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and Bishop of the Diocese of Kampala. The Archbishop revealed that Canon Baalwa was chosen to fill the position following Bishop Dr. Hannington Mutebi’s announcement of his retirement at the end of 2024.

“After prayer and consultation, I nominated The Venerable Rev Canon Fredrick Jackson Baalwa, Archdeacon of Southern Archdeaconry and Vicar of Stephen’s Parish Kisugu, to the House of Bishops in Hoima on August 10, 2024, where his appointment was unanimously approved,” said the Archbishop.

Canon Baalwa’s consecration is scheduled for November 1, 2024, at All Saints’ Cathedral, Kampala. On the same day, the new cathedral will be consecrated, new Canons will be installed, and new clergy will be ordained.

Born on May 19, 1963, in Musita, Busoga, Rev. Canon Baalwa is married and has three children. He holds a Master of Arts in Theology from Uganda Christian University, a Bachelor of Divinity from Makerere University, a Diploma in Education from Kyambogo University, and a General Certificate in Theology from Namugongo Seminary. He began his service in the church as a Catechist in 1983, was commissioned as a Lay Reader in December 1985, became a Deacon in 1989, was Priested in 1991, and was installed as Canon in 2000.
